Spontaneous Society [walk]

August 24, 2013 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Free

New York artist and poet Jon Cotner revives the ancient, endangered practice of walking and talking. His interactive walks combine dialogue, movement, and observation for the sake of worldly encounter. Cotner will lead Spontaneous Society walks that center on a series of one-line utterances that spontaneously unite participants with people encountered along the way. These ordinary phrases are addressed to women, men, and children involved in ordinary activities, and are aimed at highlighting experiences of fleeting urban realities while offering tools to build fleeting social connections, intensifying the joy of daily life. Cotner will lead two walks, one starting at noon and the other at 3:00 pm; meet in workshop room in the Michigan Avenue Galleries. Space is limited; groups will be limited to five participants who will be taken on 90-minute walks in the neighborhood to participate in an experiment to engage with everyday citizens doing everyday things. Reserve space in advance: RSVP@soaculture.com
